The Resident Commissioner Of Kerala

The Resident Commissioner holds a pivotal position in the affairs of the State Government of Kerala in Delhi. He is the administrative head of all offices of the Government of Kerala and PSUs functioning in the national capital. He is the official interface of the state government with the Union Government and various other constitutional and statutory organizations based in Delhi.

A senior All India Service officer is posted as the Resident Commissioner of the Government of Kerala in Delhi with headquarters in Kerala House, New Delhi to look after all these responsibilities. An Additional Resident Commissioner is also appointed by the Government to assist the Resident Commissioner. At present Shri. Ajit Kumar IAS is the Resident Commissioner and Shri. Chetan Kumar Meena IAS is the Additional Resident Commissioner from 2023 October onwards.

Resident Commissioner's Office

The role of the Resident Commissioner (RC) includes proper liaisoning and coordination with various ministries of the Government of India for and on behalf of the Government of Kerala. Other than the ministries of the Government of India the Resident Commissioner coordinates with the Office of the President, Vice President and Prime Minister Office to arrange appointments of the Governor, Chief Minister and Ministers and ensures their smooth meetings with the dignitaries along with subsequent follow-up of issues taken up during the meeting.  Follow-up works regarding fund releases and pending proposals of the State with the Union Government are supervised by the Resident Commissioner in a timely manner through the Liaison wing.  Protocols for visiting the Governor, Chief Minister, Ministers, Speaker and High Court judges and Senior Officials of the State Government and their comfortable stay in Kerala House are supervised by the Resident Commissioner through various officers who are assigned duties and responsibilities as per their respective wings. 

The Resident Commissioner is assisted by an administrative unit under an Administrative Officer and a Section Officer especially to deal with the establishment and ministerial matters.

The Office of the Controller also functions as a separate unit for guest house management under the Resident Commissioner with the Controller as the head of the office who is assisted by an Administrative Officer, Protocol Officer, Manager (Catering), Manager (House Keeping) and a Section Officer.

The Resident Commissioner is also assisted by a Liaison Wing headed by a Liaison Officer to ensure liaison and coordination with various ministries of the Government of India.  

The Law Wing, PWD Engineering Sub-Division, Information Office, Tourist Information Centre, Office of the Resident Engineer Kerala State Electricity Board Ltd. (KSEB), Norka Roots and Norka Cell are also functioning under the administrative control of the Resident Commissioner.
